Samsung has performed a teardown of its Gear S3 smartwatch in a bid to show to the world what makes its latest smartwatch tick.

Powered by dual core 1.0 GHz application processor paired with 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, the Gear S3 promises to offer military grade durability as well as an IP68 dust and water resistance rating that ensures that your smartwatch is protected from dust and immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The ensure that the display remains intact even on a fall, Samsung has packed its Gear S3 with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+.

In the teardown, beyond the internal specifications Samsung has also detailed details about Gear S3’s bezel and front case, display, bracket, main board, rear case, and the band that keeps the S3 around your wrist.

The Gear S3 packs a two-way bezel enabling users to navigate the smartwatch’s circular UX. The bezel comes with bezel guide that is located between the bezel and the front case as well as ceramic balls and springs that enable its 24 detent bezel interface. Samsung has used stainless steel 316L, which is the most commonly used material for analog watches. The entire front case of the Gear S3 functions as a radio frequency (RF) antenna, a component necessary for standalone 3G/LTE connectivity.

The display is a 3-inch circular Super AMOLED display with a a resolution of 360 x 360. The ambient light sensor helps to adjust the brightness of displayed information and works to automatically disable the Always On Watch when users can’t see the screen.

Gear S3’s mainboard houses a number of sensors that enable the device’s fitness features. The built-in GPS permits users to accurately monitor their daily fitness activities while the barometer sensor allows them to measure altitude and atmospheric pressure, and detect sudden changes in weather. The heart rate monitor (HRM) sensor, meanwhile, ensures that users stay at their target rate for an optimized workout.

The Gear S3 frontier is outfitted with a silicon band while the Gear S3 classic model comes with a leather band.
