Apple is yet to release its iPhone 7 in most parts of the world, but it seems that it already has its eyes set on the next version of the iPhone – iPhone 8.

Report from KGI securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a history with revealing information about Apple products well in advance, has revealed in an investor note that the 2017 iPhone (iPhone 8) will be equipped with glass front and back, which was the case of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Further, the iPhone to be released next year won’t be a successor of the iPhone 7 in the form of iPhone 7S, but will be named iPhone 8.

KGI believes that the popularity of Jet Black iPhone 7 is being seen as the reason for shift to glass front and back. According to KGI, more than 40 per cent pre-order customers have opted for Jet Black iPhone 7 range and Apple is struggling to deliver with supply. KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo feels use of all glass design will help the company offer glossy finish with all colour variants. Also use of glass will prevent Jet Black variant from scratches and other physical damages, notes KGI.

Apple is also reported to use 2.5D glass over 3D glass with the next generation iPhone. KGI says, “Customers prefer the glossy finish, but it’s difficult to manufacture in large quantities at the rate Apple needs.”

Apple is reported to reinvent iPhone design with next generation device. Apple is also likely to use stainless steel or aluminium casing metal casing with higher end models likely to get stainless steel. Apple seems to be returning to the design language first seen on iPhone 4 era. KGI had previously suggested that next iPhone will use OLED displays and one premium model getting curved glass like Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge and Note 7.

Apple is rumoured to unveil a larger 5.8-inch iPhone next year with smaller bezel. Apple has been widely rumoured to reinvigorate its iPhone business next year with new design and more emphasis on Siri.
