As we had mentioned earlier how the no such thing as Surface Pro 5 statement by Microsoft executive was being misquoted, it turns out Microsoft will be launching Surface Pro 4 successor with just ‘Surface Pro’ name and not Surface Pro 5 as everyone is expecting.
Microsoft is holding an event in China next week and the theme of the event is undoubtedly “Surface” suggesting that a new member in the Surface line-up of devices is indeed coming. Everyone was talking about Surface Pro 5 launch at the event, but just as rumor mill was spinning out of control, Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay torpedoed the hopes of millions around the world by stating that there wasn’t anything as Pro 5 at this time.
However, it turns out that Microsoft is likely hiding a new Surface Pro under its sleeve and instead of calling it a Surface Pro 5, it is calling it just Surface Pro. This effectively sits in line with what Panay said – no Surface Pro 5 – but that doesn’t mean that Microsoft was not going to release any new Surface Pro this year. They are most likely releasing the new Surface Pro at the event in China next week.
New leak by Venture Beat indicates that next week’s event in China will see a Surface Pro 4 refresh and it is not going to be named Surface Pro 5. The leak shows off a couple of renders of the new Surface Pro featuring a design similar to Surface Pro 4. The design doesn’t look different at all and that effectively means that Microsoft has got some upgrades under the hood and hence it has named it just Surface Pro instead of Surface Pro 5.
There’s isn’t much information in the report, but the publication says it will have more to report next week as we draw closer to Microsoft’s event in China. Until then head to your favourite retailer and ask for Surface Pro 4 discounts – on Amazon.com the prices have been reduced by up to 25 per cent.
