Ford has revealed its 2018 Ford EcoSport at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show while also confirming that the subcompact SUV will be manufactured in India and imported to the US for sales.

Exports of Ford India have been increasing over the last few months as compared to the same months last year with August 2016 being the month of highest number of exports. In October, Ford India’s exports grew by a massive 40% to 14,535 units as compared with 10,412 units in the corresponding month last year. In August Ford India exported 17,860 units, its highest ever exports in a single month.

Ford Ecosport is one of the most popular subcompact SUVs around the globe. The car is already being made in India since 2013 and across Ford’s other plants across the globe including Brazil, Russia and Thailand. As far as 2018 Ford EcoSport goes, it will be manufactured at company’s Chennai plant and will be exported to the US in time for the commencement of its sales in 2018.

Ford isn’t the first company that is manufacturing cars in India and exporting it to other countries. Japanese automaker Suzuki started manufacturing hatchback Baleno in India this March and is exporting them to Japan. Suzuki is also exporting its India made cars to Europe as well.

General Motors is also having a manufacturing presence in India and has been exporting thousands of units of its Chevrolet cars from India.

French carmaker Renault is also looking to enhance its exports from India to neighboring countries and the Africa, it announced in August this year. The company further said that it intends to make its Chennai plant a manufacturing hub for exports. Renault already exports India-made Duster and Kwid to Sri Lanka and is August started exports to Nepal and Bhutan.

Korean car company Hyundai is the largest exporter of cars from India with 87,499 units at a growth of 2.01%. It’s Indian exports go to over 92 countries. In October itself it exported 14,686 units from 14,356 units in the same month last year.

Another Japanese car maker Nissan is the fourth largest exporter in India.
